![]() 'I Have a D.R.E.A.M' Day CampThe “I Have a D.R.E.A.M” Day Camp is designed to provide “at-risk” or “potentially at-risk” youth with an opportunity to step outside their physical, emotional and psychological comfort zone. Through a series of teambuilding activities, hands-on projects, off-site trips & ropes course activities, participants will be challenged to build self-esteem & self-confidence and to see possibilities beyond their perceived limitations. Participants will also explore their relationship to nature and the environment as well as their role in community improvement. Within a safe, supportive & nurturing environment, participants will work on the following: · Communication skills · Teamwork · Problem-solving · Develop trust in self and others · Set realistic & achievable goals · Anger-management/ Conflict Resolution · Ecological responsibility · Community awareness · Improving primary relationships (with family, siblings, peers, & authority figures) In the tradition of Aspen Youth Experience’s “Outdoor Experiential Programs,” this 5-day “Day Camp” will provide youth with an opportunity to experience interpersonal growth through challenging teambuilding & ropes course activities. Participants will improve their self-esteem and self-confidence. Participants will increase their level of commitment to family, community & education. Camper Eligibility· Age 12-14 · Youth “at-risk” (defined as youth who is at substantially higher risk for negative outcomes such as substance abuse, teen pregnancy, crime, violence, and academic underachievement due to family, community, social, political, and economic conditions which fail to create opportunities for youth to thrive). · Working knowledge of English language · Openness to the AYE Experience: Participants must be selected based on their readiness and willingness to undertake the challenges offered by this camp. Youth must possess the cognitive ability and emotional readiness to reap the benefits of this camp. |
